2012 CFDA Award winners: The Olsens scoop top prize!
The Olsen twins have beat out Marc Jacobs to win the top prize at the 2012 CFDA Awards. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen have taken out the prestigious award for Womenswear Designer of the Year for their label The Row by the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Wearing dresses they they had created themselves, the mini fashion moguls joined Billy Reid, who scooped the gong for Menswear Designer of the Year on the winners walk.
Other recipients include Reed Krakoff for Accessories Designer of the Year, while the Swarovski Awards for Emerging Talent went to British shoe designer Tabitha Simmons for accessories, Phillip Lim for menswear and Joseph Altuzarra for womenswear.
Bloggers Scott Shumann, a.k.a. The Sartorialist and Garance Dore (also a real-life couple) were given the Media Award and Tommy Hilfiger was honoured with the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Presenting him with the award was Anna Wintour who said: "I admire him as much for who he is as what he has done."
Finally Rei Kawakubo won the International Award and Johnny Depp was bestowed with the Fashion Icon Award. Unfortunately neither Kawakubo or Depp were in attendance at the awards ceremony.
