Tilda Swinton does drag for Candy cover
I could barely believe my eyes when I saw these images of Tilda Swinton in drag - doesn't she look absolutely fantastic?! I think I've become so used to Tilda's cropped hair and androgynous approach to fashion that whenever I see her do something different, I'm always blown away by it, and this shoot for Candy's 'Extra Extravagance' issue certainly tops the lot! The revolutionary fashion magazine (which has previously boasted James Franco in drag and Chloë Sevigny dressed as Terry Richardson on its cover) is the first transversal style publication, "completely dedicated to celebrating transvestism, transexuality, cross dressing and androgyny, in all its manifestations". Now on it's fourth issue, Candy is continuing to push the boundaries with another celebrity shoot and I have to say, whilst I loved Franco and Sevigny's efforts, I think Tilda's spread is my favourite so far.
Tilda completely rocks the cover in a custom-made golden couture gown by Anthony Price, and her billowing curls and fiery makeup transform her into an almost unrecognizable beauty (funnily enough, the coordinating feature is entitled 'The Transformer'). Shot by Spanish photographer Xevi Muntane and styled by her "playmate", Creative Director Jerry Stafford, Tilda embraces a number of style personas, from the red headed golden goddess, to a retro brunette. I love the tongue in cheek 80's inspired images, where Tilda is adjusting her heavily beaded reptilian bodice, but it's the dreamy 70's image that really excites me - the pose, the huge curled afro, the accessories, the colours...it just all works so well together. Can you believe she's 51?!
Tilda has been quite the social butterfly recently, making an appearance at Karl Lagerfeld's star studded Chanel Cruise, and attending the premiere of Wes Anderson's new movie, 'Moonrise Kingdom' at the opening night of the 65th Cannes Film Festival. Would you like to see Tilda work these looks on the red carpet, or do you prefer her comfortable yet handsome wardrobe inspired by her style icons David Bowie and her father?
