nicola formichetti black and white portrait shot.jpgIt seems there is no rest these days for Nicola Formichetti. Not only is he busy enough with Thierry Mugler, Haus of Gaga, Uniqlo and Vogue Hommes Japan, the designer has revealed he is set to launch a new high-tech brand next year.

"It'll be very digitally oriented and high-tech," the Mugler creative director told WWD. "We've been working with the same fabrics, the same techniques for hundreds of years. That's all great, but we need something new."

The concept behind the brand is to create clothes that incorporate the use of solar power, offer the ability to charge a mobile phone, and can mould perfectly to a body using new materials and methods. To help him achieve his vision he has enlisted the services of a technology company to work on creating clothing for the label, but would not disclose which company.

"Why do you have to have a zipper when you can have a jacket that's moulded to your body?" he asked.

The brand which is called Formichetti is being developed in New York and is likely to launch online mid-2013. It will comprise of apparel and accessories and instead of launching during fashion week, will début online as it may "not have seasons". Can't wait to see what technological creations he will come up with!
