Nicholas Kirkwood disapproves of Kate Middleton's footwear
Infamous shoe royalty Nicolas Kirkwood has voiced his opinions on Kate Middleton's penchant for high street footwear - and it isn't pretty! Not quite as bold as Vivienne Westwood's open distaste for the Duchess of Cambridge's 'ordinary' style, Kirkwood told The Daily Beast that, "It'd be great if she did wear [my] shoes. She just wears too much high street stuff." The German designer continued, "I know she's trying to be democratic, but I don't know how many pairs of LK Bennett you can wear. She does occasionally come out and is wearing [Alexander] McQueen or something like that. It's like, 'Do that more! You're meant to be a princess-y type of person, so act like one!" OUCH.
Kirkwood is well known for his inventive and original shoe designs, so it doesn't surprise me that he finds Kate's taste a little too conservative - his heels are far more suited to stylish celebrities such as Doctor Who's Karen Gillan, superstar mum Beyonce, and fashion icon Sarah Jessica Parker. As well as sending some fantastical shoes down the runway for Erdem and Meadham Kirchoff this year, Kirkwood has been busy creating a special 'Pearly Queen' heel for Selfridges in honour of HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee next month. The £995 charitable inspired heels, which feature a mismash of pearl buttons, diamante flowers and colourful feathers, will be available to buy from Selfridges this month. In the mean time, here's the stripped back version. You never know, maybe Kate will surprise him...
What do you think of Kirkwood's rant? Do you wish Kate would wear something more exciting every now and again or do you like her style as it is? Let us know in the comments!
