Giorgio Armani reveals the Italian Olympic Games 2012 kit
Team GB gets Stella McCartney, Team USA gets Ralph Lauren, and now Team ITA gets Giorgio Armani. The Italian designer has become the third major fashion identity to create a kit for his nation's Olympic athletes.
Armani unveiled his designs at a press conference in Milan yesterday, he said: "I am very honoured to participate with these great colleagues. This will be the most fashionable Olympic Games ever."
Created under the Emporio Armani EA7 sportswear label, Armani produced a 50-piece kit collection based on a palette of white and dark blue. It seems that opposite to to McCartney and Lauren's designs, Armani avoided colours that appear on his home country's flag - red, green and white. He also didn't create any clothes that the sports men and women will actually compete in. Rather each athlete will receive a set of Armani luggage which contains around 50 items of EA7 gear including the official tracksuit, warm-up kit, Bermuda shorts and a variety of trousers, T-shirts, shirts and shoes.
"I am very patriotic. Commitment and sacrifice are important values, and they are key to sport and the Olympic ideal," added Armani. As for his favourite sport, he said: "My favourite discipline is the high jump. I like the idea of reaching the unreachable."
