60's icon Twiggy creates catwalk show for Vintage Festival
After announcing that the 1990's would be playing a big part in its festival this year, I didn't think that The Vintage Festival could throw any more curve balls that would surprise me, but it looks like I was wrong! The fashionable event told Catwalk Queen this morning that legendary model Twiggy is curating a bespoke catwalk show for the festival, celebrating the very best of the 'Swinging Sixties'.
Famed for her cropped hair, startling eyes and androgynous dress sense, Twiggy was the poster girl for the 1960's. Dubbed as 'the Face of 1966', she became one of the first international supermodels to draw attention to London's creativity during the sixties boom, and with all of the extra attention that the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and 2012 Games are bringing to the city right now, it seems to us like a match made in heaven. At the festival, Twiggy will pay homage to some of the most significant British fashion of the time, celebrating the clothes, accessories, hair and make up from the decade, set to the music that was the soundtrack of her career. We're expecting to see plenty of Mary Quant mod looks whilst we're tapping our feet to The Beatles!
Vintage Festival co-founder/designer Wayne Hemingway MBE has sung Twiggy's praise, naming her "one of the most recognisable and timeless models of all time", whilst the iconic model herself commented, "It's fabulous to be part of the sixties style scene in the UK. It was a decade full of fun, creativity and innovation and a time when music and fashion really came together. I hope you enjoy this exhibition of fashion and music at the Vintage Festival this summer."
