Amongst the glitterati at last night's 2012 Met Gala were a string of dark horses. By dark I mean celebrities who opted to go the black/ink/midnight blue route with their choice gown colour. Sexy, slinky, Gothly - there were plenty of dark-coloured numbers swanning about the red carpet from models to actresses.

Some of the famous faces to rock up to the Met Gala in a dark hue were Rosie Huntington-Whiteley who clung to the arm of Mario Testino in a sparkly long black dress from Burberry. The leggy model was the picture of elegance with her hair up in a high bun, a pair of jewelled drop earrings and a snakeskin clutch. Fellow model Gisele Bundchen also opted for the black sparkly look. She frocked up in an embellished Givenchy gown which cinched in at the waist and included a split up the middle. With hubby Tom Brady also in attendance these two were at the top of Met's glam couple list for sure.

Award-winning actresses Cate Blanchett and Renee Zellweger also took advantage of how flattering black looks on the body by choosing the shade for their own Met Gala ensemble. Cate wore a black sleeveless feathered gown from Alexander McQueen. While Renee arrived in a sheer Emilio Pucci mermaid number which comprised of a cut-out bodice, long sleeves, and a chiffon and organza ruffled train.

Other starlets who were the dark horses on the night were Kate Bosworth in Prada and Rooney Mara in Givenchy Couture. Browse the gallery to see more Met Gala looks.
