The stars came out in style over in New York last night for the 2012 Times 100 Gala, honouring the 100 most influential people in the world. The list consists of some of the most iconic leaders, pioneers, film stars and singers, with this years line up featuring the likes of Barack Obama, Rihanna, Adele and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

The Times event is an interesting one to watch - as always the fashion stakes are high amongst the celebrity filled crowd, but there's a certain level of elegance that keeps even the most outlandish celebs in check. 24-year-old Rihanna appeared in her most modest attire this year - a stunning fuschia prom dress from Marchesa's 2012 resort collection teamed with a pair of Bois Dore Louboutins. Ignoring her tattoo and jet black nails (neither of which look good with this get up) Rihanna looks a lot more demure, and it makes a nice change. I'm glad she decided to keep the makeup glamorous yet simple (anything else would have looked too much alongside the hefty jewellery) and I'd like to personally thank her hairdresser for working wonders with her poor over-dyed locks! As much as poor RiRi tries to play down her bad girl status, the stars mother embarrassed her at the Gala by discussing her daughters alleged late night fling with Demi Moore's ex-husband, Ashton Kutcher. Rihanna took to twitter to share her cringe-worthy moment with her fans:

Whilst Rihanna was busy trying to make a good impression, Homeland actress Claire Danes seemed determined to add a little edge to her look, opting for a burgundy Lanvin dress from the brands Pre-Fall 2012 collection. Claire looked beautiful in the wet look shift, and certainly deserves kudos for pushing the boat out in a difficult to wear dress. Whilst I'm not a huge fan of the strappy cream shoes, I love the statement necklace, smoky eye makeup and messy up-do - bravo Claire!

Last but by no means least is Bridesmaids actress Kristen Wiig, who looked the gorgeous in a black lace jumpsuit by Stella McCartney married with simple gold jewellery and black peep-toe heels. Stella's jumpsuit has been popular amongst the celebrity set (fashion icon Victoria Beckham is a fan) and it really suits Kristen's relaxed approach to style. I applaud Kristen for changed up the red carpet dynamic by not wearing a dress - her outfit is classic yet fresh and I love it!
