Two nods to fashion were given in this year's Time 100 List of influential people. They belong to Sarah Burton of Alexander McQueen and Sarah Blakely, the inventor of one of CQ's most favourite products - Spanx!

As the only two fashion names to make the cut, I heartily agree with these two ladies being included in this annual list. Not only did Burton captivate us with that wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton, Blakely has transformed our bodies with that genius piece of elasticised underwear.

"She thinks about women and art and stories, weaves her tale into the future of fashion. On the runway she is inspired," Sarah Jessica Parker wrote about Burton for the magazine. "And she did the undoable. A royal wedding dress that could never live up to the impossible dream. But it did."

For Blakely's entry, journalist Katie Couric wrote: "Luckily for Sara Blakely plenty of us had a little junk in our trunks. As we were trying to hide our guts, she trusted hers. Despite the naysayers, with just $5,000 and a great idea she proved that you don't need an M.B.A. to know what women want and how to market it."
