Two of Australia's biggest exports have shocked fashion fans by announcing their withdrawal from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) today. In a sudden move, both Josh Goot and Dion Lee have confirmed they are pulling out of MBFWA two weeks before it is due to start in Sydney!

In a statement, Goot cited the "challenging timing" of the MBFWA as the reason behind his decision to cancel his show.

"This is the right decision for the Josh Goot brand, business and team. We've had an amazing response to Spring Summer 2012, and I think it's important that we consolidate our position, rather than rush into a new collection to show at MBFWA. The entire studio and I want to focus on the new Resort collection without the distraction of a show. I believe strongly in Australian Fashion Week as an important initiative that strengthens our domestic fashion story. I hope to participate in the event in the years to come," he said.

While Lee said he prefers to focus on his next London Fashion Week collection in September, following his Autumn/Winter 2012-13 collection which he showed at London in February.

"I have presented solo shows at Australian Fashion Week for the past three years and each of these have been of great benefit to my business in terms of building its profile on a local and international level. I hope to return to the Australian show schedule in the near future," he said in a statement.

While organisers might be scrambling to sort out the schedule, there are still plenty of incredible designers to see at this year's MBFWA such as Romance Was Born, Zimmermann, Jayson Brunsdon, Akira and Ellery. Check out who is showing here.
