Friday Frock: Altuzarra for J. Crew Sabrina Dress
Earlier this week the collaboration between J. Crew and this year's CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund honorees - Joseph Altuzarra, Pamela Love and Creatures of the Wind - was announced. The Altuzarra for J. Crew collection is already available and one of our favorites is the Sabrina dress, $228. It comes in this lovely dusty blue and also a navy.
Paris-born Altuzarra says: "My inspiration for this collection was Brigitte Bardot in Saint-Tropez and French preppy style." Bardot apparently wore gingham on her wedding day!
The J. Crew summer staple Thomas Mason gingham was reimagined in a sleek contoured dress with flattering seams at the hips and gently molded cups to keep the sometimes overly innocent pattern a bit sexy. A prim grosgrain ribbon accents the waist. Altuzarra says it's the perfect summer cocktail dress.
The cotton sleeveless dress is lined and features boning at the sides for added support, there's a hidden back zip and the straight skirt falls just below the knee.
The rest of the collection features a lot of French stripes, a truly classic denim knee-length skirt and some red espadrilles that are to die for. The gingham of the Sabrina dress is also used in a crisp pink blouse with country charm. "It's mean to feel a little cheeky," Altuzarra says.
