Lingerie Month Review: Panache Superbra 'Carmel'
When it comes to bras, there are only a handful of brands I know I can rely on for a comfortable, supportive fit, and Panache Superbra is one of those. I find the shape of the cup is perfect for me (wider, rather than deeper, so you get a round shape, not a pointy one) and most Panache styles also have a deep centre gore which I find more comfortable.
First up in my Panache Superbra trials is Carmel, an in-your-face indigo coloured bra with bright orange hibiscus flowers. I think the design is a bit marmite - I quite like the bold embroidery, and the deep band and full cup offer great support and comfort. The bright colours suit my style. But I do think this bra could end up looking a bit frumpy if you're not careful - this type of heavy floral embroidery is only good when done well (otherwise it can look cheap). Luckily, I think Panache manage to pull it off and the colours are a bit different to your usual red and black combo.
Fit wise, it can't really be faulted. I'm between a 32 and 34 band size (oh, for a 33!) but I know Panache Superbra styles tend to be on the generous side, so tried this in the 32E which fit perfectly. The band provided all the support I needed but wasn't too tight, the straps didn't dig in once they were adjusted correctly, and the cups gave a good, rounded shape and weren't overflowing or gaping.
The only thing I would say is that the fabric (a polyamide / polyester / elastane mix) was very slightly itchy around the edges (across the top of the cup and occasionally under the armpits) which is why I only rate it an 8/10 for comfort. In the Summer in hot weather I feel like this won't be the best bra in my collection, but for mild Spring days, it's fine. A few washes with a good fabric conditioner would probably help there, too.
Overall, if you're looking for a comfortable D+ style, I don't think you can go wrong with Panache, particularly if you have wide-set breasts or a larger back size. It's just a case of finding the print or fabric that works for you, and this bold floral may or may not be the one!
