Coach has announced a new collection that will usher in a whole new retail concept for the leathergoods purveyor. The dual-gender collection will be a cornerstone of their business going forward and will impact everything from marketing to packaging to what the stores look like. It is also going to skew price points up, up, up. Perhaps we can think of it as the anti-Poppy?

The Legacy Collection, to hit August 1, will be a lifestyle concept to help Coach try to become about more than just handbags. There will also be shoes, hats, jewelry, eyewear and outerwear ... which doesn't sound all that different than their current offerings, to be honest. The bags in the collection are inspired by the archive, and will often be displayed next to their inspirational predecesors.

"Historically, Coach in the old days was more somber and more straightforward," brand president and executive creative director Reed Krakoff told WWD. "We really tried to look and embrace the core of what we're about and modernize it. We wanted it to feel relevant and of this time even if they are rooted in our history, so the coloration and fabrication are quite feminine, graphic and much more broad based."
