British Vogue's Alexandra Shulman pens novel
With 20 years behind her as the editor at British Vogue, Alexandra Shulman (pictured, far right) has now turned her skills to writing her first fictional novel. Can We Still Be Friends? tells the tale of three 20-something gals, journalist Salome, Annie who wants nothing more than to settle down, and strong-willed Kendra.
According to Shulman they are "three different girls, with very different paths ahead." The book is filled with 80s fashion and anecdotes such is how intimidating it was to enter a Joseph store 25 years ago. Ooh fun!
The Vogue editor launched her book at Sotheby's Wednesday night with a bunch of her famous pals dropping in to lend their support. In attendance was the prime minister's wife, Samantha Cameron, as well as Sir Philip Green, Nigella Lawson and Mario Testino. Quite a turn out.
At the launch, Shulman joked that she should have named her novel 'How did you find the time?' because: "that's the question that I get asked the most". For anyone wondering just how she managed to squeeze out a book while maintaining her job as boss at Vogue, she dedicated her evenings, weekends and early mornings for a year-and-a-half. She also made special mention to the "self-motivated" team at Vogue who allowed her the time to work on her literary masterpiece.
One worth adding to the summer holiday reading list!
