Update: Christopher Kane is not going to Dior
It seems the top job at Christian Dior is still up for grabs with Christopher Kane ruling himself out of the race yesterday. The British designer confirmed to Vogue UK that he is not a candidate for the job which was left open by John Galliano a year ago.
"While it is incredibly flattering that I could be considered for a role at a house such as Dior at this stage in my career, I can confirm that I have not been approached," Kane said. "I am focused on developing my own label and my ongoing collaboration with Donatella Versace for Versus."
Menkes added that Marc Jacobs (another rumoured contender) was reportedly passed over a Dior because he "asked for too much in return." Jacobs has also denied he was in line to take over the reins at the label for now, but did not rule out himself out as a possibility for the future.
"There have been on-and-off conversations about Dior. I don't know; maybe someday in the future, maybe years from now, I may end up going some place else, maybe Dior. But right now I am at Vuitton, and all that matters to me is that that's where I am and I'm going to keep doing my thing," he said in December.
So in the meantime it seems Bill Gaytten will continue to fill the gaps left behind by Galliano until a successor is finally announced. Erm, whenever that will be... *patience quickly fading*
