Meet the new teenage Carrie Bradshaw... AnnaSophia Robb!
As we inch closer to a pilot for the new TV series for the Sex and the City prequel the first cast member for the new show has been announced.
Meet AnnaSophia Robb who will play a teenage Carrie Bradshaw in The Carrie Diaries from America's CW Network (the same channel that brings us Gossip Girl).
The 18-year-old actress is perhaps best known for her role in last year's Soul Surfer in which she played Bethany Hamilton, a female surfer who bravely returns to the sport after losing an arm in a shark attack. Now AnnaSophia will swap the ocean for the streets of Manhattan where she will navigate the early teenage years of Bradshaw during the early 1980s in this new coming-of-age series.
Joining the new TV project is Candace Bushnell who wrote the book, The Carrie Diaries, as well as Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Len Goldstein and Amy B. Harris who will produce. The plot centres on Carrie's senior year of high school in which she attempts to tackle those tricky teenage issues of love, sex, family and friendship.
Sarah Jessica Parker, who famously brought the grown-up Carrie to life in the original HBO series, isn't connected with the new show neither are the other leading ladies. Although it is still unclear whether Samantha Jones' character will appear as she was featured in Summer and the City: A Carrie Diaries Novel, or Miranda Hobbes who also featured in the same book released in April 2011.
Despite this other rumoured cast members have so far included Hollywood starlets Blake Lively, Elizabeth Olsen, and Selena Gomez.
