Sheer, color blocking, Fall 2012 trends on display at BCBG Max Azria
There were lots of trends on display at the BCBG Max Azria show at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week in New York today. Unfortunately, none of them were new trends, and I'm afraid that takes away from a very well done collection of chic, wearable clothes. Fur, color blocking and sheer fabrics were all used to good effect, but are last season's headlines.
If you take relevancy and innovation out of it, some quite beautiful clothes came down the runway. Silk dresses, accordion pleats, and ladylike clothes with long silhouettes looked quite fetching on the models, but the awkward mid-calf skirt lengths and abundance of sheer fabrics might be a bit harder to pull of on regular women.
The collection managed to be both very colorful and rather muted. A variety of colors from rusty earth tones and neutrals to neons were used, but in subdued shades. Nothing too saturated here. Accessories were a strong point.
