I am so thrilled to see Kate and Laura Mulleavy reference Australia (my home country) as the main inspiration behind their Fall 2012 collection. The sisters looked to the Aboriginal culture and early colonial times in creating Rodarte's Autumn ready-to-wear pieces. They presented their latest designs in front of an A-list front row including Natalie Portman, George Lucas, and Dakota Fanning.

Think Aboriginal paintings such as hand outlines and white dots and red stripes printed onto dresses. For the outback element, the girls unveiled rustic-toned chiffon dresses, cable knits, conservative boxy dresses, shearling coats, and breacher-style trousers. Models wore their hair in Forties-inspired wispy wave bobbed styles and bronzed, ruddy faces, reminiscent of Nicole Kidman in the film, Australia. The Mulleavys also took the opportunity to present their first ever shoe collection comprising of chunky Mary Jane pumps and lace-up boots.
