Oscars 2012 Fashion: Melissa McCarthy in Marina Rinaldi
Nominee for Bridesmaids Melissa McCarthy's romantic dress seems to have split the fashion vote down the middle, with half the pundits loving her choice of colour, embellishment and softness, and others suggesting she would have benefited from more structure and heavier fabrics.
The funniest thing, though, is watching them discuss her outfit without mentioning one obvious point. Guys, it's ok to say 'plus size'. It's not a dirty word!
As we've reported in the past, it's not exactly news that women who aren't a sample size don't have the pick of the catwalks when it comes to their gowns, and designers don't queue up to dress them in quite the same way they do the likes of Michelle Williams and Jessica Chastain.
That said, as a nominee, Melissa didn't exactly have to pop to Ross Dress For Less to get her gown, instead it was custom made by Marina Rinaldi. And we actually love the dusky pink and the applique embellishment, though we'd love it even more if it didn't have the sleeves / cape - it's one detail too much and just serves to reaffirm the whole idea that You Must Cover Your Arms if you don't work out like Madonna. We're kind of hoping Melissa whips that silly whisp of fabric off and shows off that neckline as it's meant to be.
