The ornate details of the Dolce & Gabbana Autumn/Winter 2012 Ready-to-Wear fashion show were the clear stars of the collection, and can be viewed quite intimately in the behind-the-scenes video above. The video is from the backstage fittings the day before the show. The entire show can be viewed on the Dolce & Gabbana Web site here.

It was all very Italian, very old-world and in the Dolce & Gabbana vein of more, more, more. More lace, more brocade, more jewels and details piled on to every look with precision and sophistication. There were a lot of trends mashed up in here - sheer, florals for fall, jeweled details similar to those we saw at Prada but used oh so differently.

This is a very strong, regal look that makes a big statement. All the lace and embroidery is beautiful but difficult to picture in a real life setting, and set at odds with the more modern looks we've been seeing this season. Not that there's anything wrong with setting oneself apart, far from it.

Capes and capelets were abundant, and some of my favorite pieces were the rich painterly florals done on black, flouncy dresses. They were flirty and sexy and covered up all at once. Paired with knee-high patterned sheer hosiery they were given a bit of extra sass but I could completely see them in many a real woman's wardrobe.

So a mix of old-world fantasy and wearable fantasy at Dolce & Gabbana this season, we'd expect nothing less.
