Vogue UK's March cover girl is Lana Del Rey
It was bound to happen sooner or later, only our bets were on a bit later. Lana Del Rey has landed her first ever cover for Vogue by gracing the March 2012 issue of the British edition. After recently landing a modelling contract with NEXT Model Management, the YouTube singer's star has skyrocketed.
Of course the cover is perfect timing to coincide with her début album, Born To Die, which has raced up the charts this week. Dressed in a lemon dress from the Louis Vuitton Spring 2012 collection, Lana certainly looks right at home on the front of the glossy with that flame-coloured hair and full pout. Nevertheless the decision to put her on the cover will no doubt draw some backlash. Despite Vogue UK's obvious fondness for the so-called modern Nancy Sinatra, many (yours truly included) will be surprised to see the already highly criticised Lana landing such a major coup.
"I am many of the thousands of people enraptured by the throaty, seductive voice of Lana Del Rey," says Alexandra Shulman in her editor's letter. "Once I had seen Lana play at a small event in London, I was convinced that she would be a great Vogue cover girl, even though she is probably one of the newest stars in her field that the magazine has ever had on the cover."
What do you think of Vogue's decision to put Lana on the cover? We'd love to hear your thought's below.
