It looks like we may be waving a sad goodbye to yet another UK high street favourite as it's been announced today that auditing firm KPMG have been appointed as administrator of Peacocks.

This is just the latest in a long line of fashion retailers to face administration after battling against a tough economy. La Senza and Jane Norman suffered a similar fate last year (though some jobs were saved through buy-outs), and no doubt we will see other casualties in 2012.

Peacocks are a big player on the UK high street, which makes this news all the more devastating. Almost 10,000 jobs are at risk, which reportedly makes this the biggest high street collapse since Woolworths folded in 2008.

A campaign has been started to try and save these jobs, and no doubt people will continue to rally round and campaign despite the news that administration is now official. See the twitter hashtag #savepeacocks and the facebook group for more information on how you can get involved.
