Giorgio Armani Privé Spring / Summer 2012 Haute Couture
Giorgio Armani's green machines took over the runway at the presentation of his Armani Privé Haute Couture SS12 collection yesterday. The Italian designer named this one Metamorphosis after the woman "who is at first calm and easy and then is drawn out of her own skin."
Does he mean that we all eventually turn into green-eyed monsters?
Whatever the meaning behind it, Armani rarely fails to deliver in the couture stakes. In this instance his models were decked out in every shade of green from chartreuse to deep green. He somehow managed to fuse sci-fi sea creature elements with lavish evening gowns that sashayed down the catwalk in layers of organza, oversized sequins and snake prints.
Also in the mix were his favourite constructed jackets which were lean and featured a peplum. Accessories were rather outrageous. Teaming up with Philip Treacy, there was futuristic headwear, and twisted miniature fascinators to help bring to life these creatures of the sea. At times so much chartreuse bordered on sickly, but overall it was another true example of Armani's incredible craftsmanship.
