Elizabeth Taylor's wardrobe and jewellery goes under the hammer
Elizabeth Taylor was known for her love of bling almost as much as she was known for her films... and many marriages.
Now her famous jewellery has gone under the hammer for an astonishing amount. Her collection fetched more than £74million at Christie's Auction House in the US this week. It smashed the previous world record for the most valuable private collection of jewellery sold at auction.
In addition to her legendary bling, Liz's wardrobe also raised an unbelievable £1.67 million at auction. The most expensive item sold was a silver encrusted brocade Christian Dior and matching purse, which fetched £234,060!
"This truly is one of the greatest jewellery collections in the world," said Marc Porter, chairman and president of Christie's Americas, before declaring that the auction was "one of the most extraordinary sales Christie's has ever had."
One of the lucky shoppers was Kim Kardashian, who reportedly splashed out $65,000 on three Lorraine Scwartz bracelets worn by Taylor, who Kardashian described as her idol.
Liz Taylor passed away in March this year from heart failure, she was 79 years old.
