Dior close to signing Raf Simons, says reports
The latest Christian Dior rumours have switched from Marc Jacobs to Raf Simons. With Jacobs moving out of the top spot, industry sources are buzzing over news that the fashion house is close to signing Simons.
Although WWD reports that a contract is yet to be signed, with "several key details" to be worked out first. If true, it would mean that the Belgian designer must step down from his role at Jil Sander in which he has held the role of creative director since 2005. This may prove tricky since his contract at Jil Sander is believed to have been recently extended.
Despite the whispers of a new appointment at Dior, a collection from the house in time for Paris Fashion Week in March let alone Couture Week in January is considered highly doubtful. Since John Galliano's dismissal from the company, Bill Gayten has been running the show and producing collections for couture and ready-to-wear.
As WWD speculates, if Simons should be recruited it would that Dior management is looking to give the house a "more modernist direction, given Simons' predilection for minimalism and futurism."
What do you think of this latest rumour? Would you like to see Raf Simons head up Dior?
