Catwalk Queen attends the AIU 'Viral' Fashion Show
Taking a quick break from our preparations for the festive season last week, we attended the American Intercontinental University 'Viral' Fashion Show to see what the University's talented fashion design students were up to. Just like last year , we weren't disappointed.
With the theme based on biology, textures spanned the weird and wonderful, whilst decoration took us down various 'dark' routes and ideas flowed in the form of structure and growth right through to evolution.
We managed to catch up with first year design student Amelie who designed one of the womenswear looks showcased at the event,
"My look is all about androdgeny. It's unisex so can be worn as a dress on females and as a shirt on males. I got my inspiration by researching denim and work-wear which led to my analysis of the famous Levis jeans. I've added some pocket detail and suspenders to the look too."
Amelie also revealed that she gets most of her inspiration from her travelling around Germany, London, Paris and Rome.
"My signature style is very menswear inspired and I look a lot to heritage brands".
In terms of designers that inspire, she named-checked one of our favourites, Jil Sander .
One of our favourite looks from the show) was designed by Lizzy Australis, one of the final year collection students.
"My look is all above movement and juxtaposition; the draped cape has an Islamic reference as well as a nod to1950's dress shapes. It's represents the independent, complicated and multifaceted woman".
You can check out Lizzy's design alongside some of our other favourites in the gallery, as well as our snaps of fashion favourite Zhandra Rhodes after the show.
