Topshop-mobile-site-screen-grab.jpgAn 8% growth in sales via its mobile site has prompted Topshop to launch a dedicated app and optimised mobile site in the coming months.

According to reports mobile sales at Topshop account for 8% of all online sales with mobile sales growing by three to four times over the last year.

Kate Walmsley, head of ecommerce at Topshop, said "Eight percent of sales are coming through mobile, if you include iPad in there, which is three or four times what it was last year. It's pretty strong growth, so we are recognising that its as really important channel for us."

Over the past three months Topshop has promoted a marketing initiative in which they reward users with free gifts, discounts and competitions once they complete a set challenge. Other retailers have also predicted a rise in sales from mobile phones. New Look launched iPhone and iPad apps last month. This follows Debenhams which launched a mobile-enabled site in September.
