Ah what a joy it is to see a Chanel show! It started with Karl Lagerfeld's underwater white world, complete with giant sculptural seashells, seahorses, coral and stingrays, and ended with a sumptuous performance by Florence Welch from inside a giant clam shell. Appearing like Boticelli's Venus upon a the oversized shell, Welch stole the show with a rendition of "What the Water Gave Me."

As for the collection, well it was a treasure chest of ladylike dressing with cutaway suits in boxy tweed, ruffled petal dresses and urchin-like shops on a mostly pale palette. Taking inspiration from the iridescent lightness of mother of pearl, Lagerfeld mixed classic pieces with futuristic sporty looks. He also ensured models wore a string of pearls but not around their necks - around their waists! For evening there were girlie dresses, embellished in swirly prints and sparkly sequins. With lots to take in (80 different looks) Lagerfeld successfully contrasted delicate feminine looks with space-age silhouettes. Check out a video of the show after the jump...
