London Fashion Week SS12 - Matthew Williamson
There are certain words that always get throw into a review of a Matthew Williamson show. 'Ibiza', 'Boho', 'Embellished', 'Exotic' 'Brights'...you know the score by now. It's all chiffon maxis, party dresses, parkas and blazers in jewel colours. Pretty, wearable and always a high street inspiration.
This season, instead of looking to his usual inspirations (India, Morocco, Miami and his party girl friends Sienna, Helena, Jade et al) the influence was far Eastern, with oriental textiles providing the inspiration for dresses covered in feathery fringing and rich sparkling details.
All the Williamson trademarks were there - bold pops of colour (in this case bubblegum pink, red, cobalt, lots of green and some rich burnt Sienna), sharp blazers and slim cigarette pants in a myriad of prints. But though there were plenty of floaty frocks, it was less boho than ever before - it seems with every season Williamson moves further away from the style that made him famous. Well, we all have to grow up sometime!
