London Fashion Week SS12 - Topshop Unique
The show on everyone's hit list it seems this season, well certainly mine, was Topshop Unique. A real celebrity favourite by the looks of the front row where every other person was famous; Naomi Campbell, Olivia Palermo, Kelis, Pixie Geldoff, Nicola Roberts, Ellie Goulding and even fashion's most elite Anna Wintour put in appearance (even if she did look distinctly indifferent with fixed sunglasses and firmly crossed arms).
Enough of that nonsense, let's get to the clothes. There was certainly a direction to the collection that I'm not sure will be to everyone's liking; I can't help it, but the awful phrase "Ghetto Fabulous" is creeping onto my keyboard. There were some definite statement pieces in the collection; a marl grey hoodie and tracksuit set with gold leaf decoration and a white graffiti printed sheer mac that are set to ruffle a few feathers and won't appeal to the mainstream audience.
However alongside these were some things I can't wait to get my hands on too; dresses were adorned with metallic gold decoration in Art Deco patterns, embellishment graced many items in a chunky statement gold form and the pale pink lame pieces were to die for. One of my fave looks on the runway was a high volume gold metallic skirt layered with a chunky knit and a modern backpack.
Tosphop Unique have a special way of making something you're highly dubious about you're next must have piece, although I'm not positive I'll find myself rocking an embellished tracksuit come the summer months, but give me some of the gold, embellished Art Deco Egyptian themed styles any day.
