CQ chats with Caroline Reader about London Fashion Weekend
Vodafone London Fashion Weekend is just a stone's throw away (actually it's three weeks away) so we thought we would pick the brain of Caroline Reader, event manager for LFWeekend. Caroline has been one of the key figures behind developing the concept and coordinating all of the activity for this jam-packed fashion event. Hear what she has to say about it below...
CQ: What are you most looking forward to at LFWeekend this season?
CR: I'm so excited about the new vintage area - so many cool vintage sellers and features. The Weekend Boutique will also be epic and we have James Long's brand new AW11 womenswear collection for sale in there as well as SIBLING, Holly Fulton and Maria Francesca Pepe! I also cannot wait to get in the Weekend Retreat - I will be in need of one of those head and shoulder massages by the end of the show for sure. My favourite tan artist James Harknett will be at the show for the first time - he is literally a tanning God!
CQ: What's Grace Woodward like?
CR: Grace is fab. She has an absolute wealth of experience and knowledge and has styled some truly cool celebrities such as La Roux, Emilia Fox, Florence and the Machine and Pharrell Williams to name a few. She will bring a really fresh new atmosphere to the Vodafone London Fashion Weekend catwalk this season and I cannot wait to see her in action!!
CQ: You deal with all of the LFWeekend designers, who have you met this week?
CR: I have had the most hectic week this week so tried to lock myself in my office with as few meetings as possible... but I've been speaking regularly on the phone the past few days with Cleo b, Michael Lewis, The Jaeger London team, David Koma, Olivia Rubin and Sarah from Lucy In Disguise.
CQ: Who's your favourite designer?
CR: You can't ask me that, it's such a hard question and there are too many to choose from. Ok just a few... I absolutely love Matthew Williamson, Christopher Kane, Holly Fulton, David Koma, Mary Katrantzou, Erdem, Marios Schwab.
CQ: Do you get to see many of the LFW shows? If so, which are you most looking forward to?
CR: During Fashion Week, our Weekend Team are normally glued to our desks preparing for the event, however, I'm sure we will get time to sneak out to see a few of the shows. I cannot wait to see Christopher Kane's new collection and also Richard Nicoll - I'm a huge fan of Richard too!
CQ: What's the best fashion party you've been to?
CR: I think it would have to be the Moet Mirage party during London Fashion Week September 2007 - it was held in some stunning ruins in Holland Park and it was just such a beautiful outdoor setting. There was also a carousel, toffee apples, and plenty of mini bottles of Moet which added to the fun! It has somehow always stuck in my mind as being a truly dreamy event
CQ: If you didn't work in fashion, what would be your Plan B?
CR: I teach yoga part time as well - so I would definitely be a full-time yoga guru with my own eco-friendly retreat in the countryside somewhere with lots of dogs and my own self-sustainable vegetable crop!
CQ: What's your favourite high street store?
CR: I love COS and Zara for work basics but also have to love Topshop - especially for their Boutique collection. ALWAYS M&S for underwear and pjs!
CQ: What was the last item you bought?
CR: A gorgeous Matthew Williamson Citrine Wool skirt from Selfridges... Please don't tell my boyfriend!!!
CQ: Finally, what are you most looking forward to this coming season?
CR: A new pair of Russell & Bromley boots , a James Long poncho, and lots of Henry Holland patterned tights!
