Paris Haute Couture: Valentino Autumn/Winter 2011-12
Have Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli been madly obsessing over Kate Middleton too? Or perhaps that's just us! The Valentino designers seem to have drawn upon all things regal and royal for the Haute Couture A/W 11-12 collection. With a distinct Medieval feel to the whole affair, each piece held a sense of grandeaur and gentility without the overkill.
Embrodiery, metallic brocade, Chantilly lace and luxurious fabrics drifted down the runway in a palette of gold, nude, champagne, cream and black. Inspired by Imperial Russia, the duo who took over from Valentino Garavani two years ago, did their best work in the eveningwear department. Long column gowns were accentuated by tulle hems, feminine frills and romantic details. Fit for a princess indeed!
