Paris Haute Couture: Giambattista Valli Autumn/Winter 2011-12
While Dior seemed to flounder, Giambattista Valli appeared to be victorious with the presentation of the house's debut Haute Couture collection. With a history rich in creating luxurious garments for the it-girls of the fashion world, it's easy to forget that this is the designers' first official couture offering.
The front row packed with the likes of Caroline Sieber, Olivia Palermo, Anna Wintour and Daphne Guinness, a procession of floaty glamorous sheath dresses filed down the runway. There wasn't a piece that didn't drip in decadence - from the white capped jackets and chiffon tiered gowns, to the long animal print capes and ruffled cocktail dresses. There was also plenty of Valli's signature embellishment in the form of ostrich feathers, red coral and crystal beading, and sequins. Such a hit was the collection, Wintour herself was spotted ducking backstage to personally congratulate Valli. Now I really can't wait to see what Azzedine Alaïa will produce!
