LA Bafta party - Blake Lively.jpgIt seems only like yesterday when Blake Lively's reps were forced to deny the actress's involvement in a film prequel to Sex and the City. However, fresh rumours have recently surfaced which suggest that the Gossip Girl starlet may be in the running to play a younger version of Samantha Jones.

The proposed project is said to be based on Bushnell's two novels, The Carrie Diaries and Summer in the City (due for publication this year). It follows the fab four during their teenage years before they became the BFFs taking on New York. In addition to Lively possibly playing Samantha, the Daily Mail reports that the current casting preferences include Elizabeth Olsen as Carrie Bradshaw, Selena Gomez as Charlotte York, and Emma Roberts as Miranda Hobbes.

When news emerged that a younger cast was being considered for the roles, Sarah Jessica Parker didn't seem too eager about the idea. "I don't think we can pretend to go back... It's creating two histories. It's like, 'Oh I didn't know that about Carrie Bradshaw,'" she told the LA Times.

Her sentiments seem to echo those of Kristin Davis, who is also averse to the project: "We've discussed our history in the show already so for all of our fervent fans who listen to what we say, why would we rewrite that? And then have like different people with our names? It's kind of freaky."
