Betty Jackson taking a gap year from London Fashion Week
One who will be missing from this season's London Fashion Week schedule is Betty Jackson. The 62-year-old designer is taking a gap year from LFW, opting not to show or create a spring/summer 2012 collection. The news came as a surprise to organisers who had already allocated her a spot on the September provisional schedule. However, Jackson was quick to deny that she is retiring from the industry.
"We are not closing the company, and I am definitely not retiring," the designer said, insisting that her decision is "unaffected by market forces, health or anything other than our desire for change."
When production starts up again at her label, it is believed she will tailor her business for wholesale and online sales, but will likely retain her London boutique. "I love having a store, because you get that immediate customer reaction, so reopening is something we will consider," she added.
With Tom Ford deciding to officially show on-schedule this season, I wonder what other surprises we are in store for...!
