Cannes Film Festival 2011: Uma Thurman, Salma Hayek & Rachel McAdams on opening night
The opening ceremony of the Cannes Film Festival attracted the usual crowd of A-listers. Beauties of all ages hit the red carpet in a slew of designer frocks which are just the first of many we'll see over the coming days. Stand-outs on day one included Uma Thurman in a modified white Versace gown which featured a fitted bodice, feathered hem and sexy thigh-high split. Understated, chic and elegant - it's hard to believe this woman is 41!

Moving on our other favourite was Salma Hayek, who donned a number by Gucci Premiere. The sparkly encrusted strapless gown was a head-turner on opening night, with every aspect glimmering against the flash of photographers. I love her sultry side waves and diamond earrings which completed the look beautifully.
Representing the next generation of Oscar contenders was Rachel McAdams. Taking a bit of a risk, the actress looked amazing in a sheer nude and red embroidered silk organza gown designed by Marchesa. It was a unusual choice but worked brilliantly on the starlet, who kept her hair in a similar style to Salma's with Veronica Lake waves.
