Since close colleague of the late Alexander McQueen, Sarah Burton, took over the reigns at the high profile design house, we always look with great anticipation at the opulent offerings in store. So when we were invited to preview the AW11 collection for the house's McQ line, we snapped up the chance.

This coming season, McQ takes us down a sophisticated punk rock path with emphasis on textures, fabrics, shaping and tactile definition. A rapid departure from the mother earth-ly spirit take for SS11, Burton uses traditional red tartans, studs, leather and the trademark safety pin to the extreme. Harness detail and leather panelling complete the ready to wear collection with sophistication. There's also a selection of basics amongst the signature extremes, I have my eye on a gorgeously simple military woollen coat.

For the first time, the brand have released a range of accessible accessories incorporating the theme from the collection, including footwear, hats, gloves and jewellery. Also amongst the mainline collection, the fashion house have produced a range of uniquely made pieces where leather jackets, tees and trousers were adorned with copious amounts of safety pin and charm embellishments.
