The 2011 CFDA Award Nominees revealed; Lady Gaga named Fashion Icon!
The nominees for this year's CFDA Awards have been announced overnight by Diane von Furstenberg in New York. Leading the charge are Marc Jacobs, Alexander Wang (nominated across three different categories) and Proenza Schouler, who have all been named in the running for the Womenswear Designer of the Year award. Jacobs will also be awarded the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the American fashion industry.
After finding out he was nominated for the prestigious award, Jacobs apparently emailed DVF to share in the news. "He's very happy, but he says it's only a half lifetime award because he's only halfway finished," she said.
Competing for the first time this year is Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen's The Row, which was nominated in the Swarovski emerging Womenswear Design category and is up against Prabal Gurung and Joseph Altuzarra. While taking out the 2011 Fashion Icon Award is Lady Gaga and Phoebe Philo has also been named the recipient of the International Award.
Flying the flag for the British media is Hilary Alexander who will be awarded the Eugenia Sheppard Media Award. Congrats Hilary!
The awards gala is set to be held on Monday 6th June at the Lincoln Center in New York.
