Paris Fashion Week A/W 2011: Jean Paul Gaultier
Wrapped up neatly in the Parisian chic way (grey-haired beehiveincluded) was the way in which Jean Paul Gaultier presented his Autumn/Winter 2011-12 collection. Ladylike, sophisticated but "without the botox," the designer's tongue-and-cheek look at young versus old was spot on.
Opening and closing the show was French comedienne, Valérie Lemercier, who bounced along the runway with possibly the biggest hair seen this season. With each look, models stripped off a scarf, jacket or belt in dramatic fashion and dumped it at the end of the runway. Staple items such as tweeds, tailored suits, pussybow blouses, fur-collared coats and belted trench coats were given Gaultier's magic touch. Proving that sex appeal doesn't always equal an abundance of flesh, it was a nice reminder that elegance is still relevant.
