Despite the no-show of Christophe Decarnin due to some much talked about personal problems, the Balmain A/W 2011 show did go ahead on Thursday morning. For the first time, British stylist Melanie Ward, took the styling reins of the show. Ward replaces Emmanuelle Alt, who we all know is off to helm Vogue Paris.

As for the collection itself, Ward says its "workwear-inspired" but there were definite signs of rock chic involved too. Shiny suits, cropped trousers, and slash-front jumpsuits were at the core. Taking a much more pared down approach, the Balmain gal glimmered in mostly black and gold sequin jackets and sparkly minidresses. White leather and powerful shoulders feathered with goat hair were a few other notable aspects.
