Paris Fashion Week A/W11: Rick Owens
Last season Rick Owens channeled all things android showing yet another strong futuristic collection but for fall, the designer decided to move out of his comfort zone and played with softer silhouettes. The first half of the collection focused on unfussy simple pieces like floor length capes styled alongside over the elbow gloves and black maxi skirts. Dresses came in monochromatic shades to begin with and as the show developed the attention moved to texture as Owens presented knitwear such as an oversized grey V neck styled with heavy wool shorts and a snood-like head wrap - think of something a nun would wear and you're almost there.
The colour palette was remained muted throughout and the footwear largely consisted of knee high boots in back or brown. Although his experimentation with layering and texture this season was good to see, the styling often felt heavy handed but towards the end of the show Owens reverted to the signature futuristic piece that we all know and love showing cropped jackets in both grey and black styles with leather panelling down short sleeves and along the bust with silver visible zips.
