New York Fashion Week: Rodarte Fall 2011
It's not often that a designer can take you off to a distant place but this is exactly what the Mulleavy sisters do so well. Inspired by the Great American Plains, they had us wanting to run through the fields in the English countryside on a windy day. The reference transpired on dresses in silk all featuring a wheat print at the bottom and coming in different colours to show the way the wheat looks at different times of the day. Hair and make-up was subtle and the sisters opted not to show accessories.Thick coats in tweed layered over a sheer dress with a pronounced padded collar added an Amish feel to the collection.
Although the colour palette was largely neutral coming in varying shades of nude and beige, black appeared on a lace over the knee length skirt teamed with a thick jumper and a nude jumper with the same print came teamed with dark brown high waisted trousers and half way through, the designers showed a selection of bright red pieces.
