The Academy of Art University show is always a treat at New York Fashion Week because it's fun to know you're going to see a few different, fresh perspectives throughout the presentation. Several student designers participate, each sending a handful of looks down the runway. It's also one of the few times you enter a fashion show without a preconceived notion of the designer's aesthetic and what you're about to see. It's also such a supportive environment, with the students' families in attendance and lots of cheering. While many of the designers create easily recognizable derivatives, that's not to say the garments aren't well crafted, creative and beautiful. Any of these designers could create a full collection that would fit seamlessly (no pun intended) into the NYFW lineup in terms of quality and construction and beauty of design.
