New York Fashion Week: Luca Luca Fall 2011
Luca Luca designer Raul Melgoza wasn't afraid to play with colour this season. Despite showing a handful of black evening dresses, models were sent down the runway in bright looks like pink jumpsuit and beanie teamed with a bright orange fur jacket. Darker oranges also appeared on feminine dresses nipped in at the waist that hung beautifully just below the knee. "Everyone is a bit more optimistic about the economy" he told Luxist, "which is why I wanted to showcase color during what otherwise is normally a darker time."
This season Melgoza was inspired by walks in the woods and it definitely showed. Skirts and dresses came in a range of contrasting fabrics like lace skirts teamed with brocade tops and suede styles also came teamed with and leather pieces in autumnal shades. "I wanted to incorporate a lot of different weights and a lot of color as opposed to staying dark and heavier as you would typically think of a fall collection."
