Milan Fashion Week Gucci AW11.jpg

Saying farewell to London, we now turn our attentions to Milan Fashion Week, and helping to kick off proceedings yesterday was Gucci. In the flash of an eye, Frida Giannini swept the runway in a trail of rich colours including yellow, purple, and jewel tones such as emerald, ruby and turquoise.

This early-gangster-meets-Seventies-bohemian theme was a great choice for Gianni, who looked to Faye Dunaway for inspiration. With nearly every look trimmed by brightly dyed fox fur, there was a definite 1940s feel to pieces, many of which relied heavily on pussy bow ties.

Culottes, snakeskin jackets, chiffon blouses and patent boots stormed the runway. Evening wear consisted of a elegant sheer gowns held together by thin waist belts and bloomer pants and beautifully decorated with flower petal ruffled boleros. The show was followed up by Gianni's launch of The Fiat 500 by Gucci special edition car. Let's face it, you can't get anymore luxe than that.
