Manish Arora named creative director of Paco Rabanne
Manish Arora has been named the new creative director of Paco Rabanne, and will head up the label's womenswear division.
Arora will show his first collection for the fashion house in October during the S/S 2012 season at Paris Fashion Week. He will also continue to produce collections for his signature label, which he also shows in Paris.
It marks a return to the runway for Paco Rabanne, who hasn't shown a ready-to-wear collection since 2006 when Rabanne stepped away from fashion to pursue other avenues.
He has been consulting on the relaunch of the brand by recently reissuing its iconic 1969 chain mail bag in partnership with Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garcon.
"In 1966, I started out with twelve experimental dresses in contemporary materials and more than 40 years later, the time has come for new experiences," Rabanne said. "The Paco Rabanne House must invent other things, touch different universes, have a different outlook and reach out to the public differently. From now on we must avoid the industrial dimension, but return to the craftsmanship aspect and produce small collections."
