London Fashion Week: Aquascutum Autumn 2011
Making her debut for Aquascutum, Joanna Sykes unveiled her first collection for the 160-year-old label by returning to where it all began. Providing a fresh take on a heritage brand, Sykes adopted clean lines, colour blocking and modern aesthetics for her Autumn/Winter '11 collection.
Named English Icons, Sykes' revived the label by reinterpreting classic items such as a trench coat and pea coat and adding exaggerated collars and contrasting panels in quilted vests, tweed, leather and shearling.
On a palette of mostly blue/grey, cream, khaki green and burnt orange, Sykes created wrap around skirts (a popular trend on the catwalks this season), geometric print dresses, slouchy knits, cropped tuxedo blazers, and buttery pleated trousers. Matching separates was key to this collection, as was producing strong outwear while ensuring femininity remained present in the form of floor-length chiffon dresses.
