London Fashion Week: Mary Katrantzou Autumn 2011
In a word... wow. I'm not going to lie, when I first set eyes on this latest collection from Mary Katrantzou, my mouth nearly hit the floor. As one of the standouts from last fashion week season, Katrantzou is back for another crack at it and is better than ever. For her Autumn/Winter 2011 collection, the Greek designer looked to the "prized possessions... that a woman like Babe Paley or the Duchess of Windsor would have." This meant sculptural art-form pieces that took on a wide variety of unique patchwork prints, similar to that of a Fabergé egg.

Mesmerising us with her highly decorative dresses, skirts, leggings and jackets, Katrantzou went 3D with her silhouettes. With a warrior princess theme throughout, she incorporated intricate Chinese porcelain prints with her lampshade skirts that are fast becoming her signature. This was before softening things with more wearable garments such as sheer fabric trousers, floaty gypsy skirts, as well as knitwear - believe it or not. Big props must go out to the incredible 3D Swarovski crystal flower skirt which almost shot up from the stems as the model walked. Simply amazing!
