London Fashion Week A/W 11: Christopher Kane (video)
Recently named Best British Designer at the ELLE Style Awards 2011, all eyes were on Christopher Kane's new collection yesterday afternoon. We were pleasantly surprised by his unexpected Autumn/Winter 2011 offering.
Following his neon colour blocking last season, Kane instead showed an array of dark hues on the the runway. Inspired apparently by pencil cases and lollipops (go figure) Kane explained this season he didn't want it to be overly elaborate. "We wanted it to be about really wearable, sophisticated clothes. It's more minimal than anything I've done before," he said.
Plastics in shimmering water colour pastels adorned the neck and shoulders of fine black crepe and cashmere black dresses. Crochet was also used in the form of pencil skirts and fitted cardigans in green, brown, turquoise and grey. Some dresses had panels missing at the midriff while others displayed necklines of gathered black netting. The collection drew to a close with some sheer iridescent sequin dresses.
With the likes of Anna Wintour, Samantha Cameron, Alexa Chung and Daphne Guinness sitting front row, expectations were high, and we're pleased to report, that as ever, Mr Kane did not disappoint!
