christian dior spring summer 2011 couture.jpg

I always look forward to Christian Dior's couture show, and the Spring 2011 collection was no different. Taking inspiration from the illustrations by René Gruau, an artist who became famous in the 1900s, John Galliano brought Gruau's drawings to life in his decadent interpretations.

With nods to New Look, dramatic pieces poured down the runway in the form of trapeze coats, giant peplums, pencil skirts and volume-esque jackets with angled sleeves. As for the gowns, well as expected they were spectacular. Tulle, lots of folds and layers hit the catwalk in colours such as deep red, black and blue.
